John Paul first took the stage in the living room of his childhood home in Dallas, Texas but quickly made his way to the neighbors…they had a piano. A little brother guaranteed a stable audience and his mom promised fresh material - she is exceptional at making up stories about the people they watch in line for the movies or sitting one table over at dinner. Dance was always medicine and music a teacher. Though the soundtrack has changed, the rhythm of life has always had a damn good beat for J.P. He is often caught playing one of his favorite instruments, the air-drums.
John Paul is graduating Carnegie Mellon University with a BFA in drama. His training led him to play a wide range of characters including a lonely owner of a map store (Lonely Planet), a precariously mischievous fly (Myths and Hymns), and a first rate first class steward (Titanic). His carrier bag is full of stories that hope for a connected world and he believes art is at the foundation of that community. For JP, we are merely the universe reflecting itself and his work is a celebration of that beautiful experience.
John Paul is inspired by the plants he cares for, his morning tea, his friends’ company, and of course, the music of Stevie Nicks and Dolly Parton. His stand up comedy skit would probably involve superstitions and quantum mechanics.
